Temple of Poi and PoiGeek are committed to supporting this valuable mission by creating an affordable opportunity for performers and audiences alike to appreciate the beauty, grace and brilliance of fire dancing by sponsoring a free-to-the-public, affordable-for-artists fire dancing show on San Francisco's landmark Union Square stage.

Temple of Poi and PoiGeek are proud to sponsor the 3rd annual Temple of PoiGeek Fire Dancing Expo as an opportunity for the global fire dancing community to perform for an enthusiastic, appreciative, receptive audience in San Francisco. Last year's event was selected by Bay Area National Dance Week as a Cornerstone Event, one of 4 San Francisco based events selected from almost 300 events held during National Dance week.

Because Temple of Poi and PoiGeek understand how challenging it can be to find safe and affordable venues in which to showcase fire dancing performance, we are creating this opportunity for artists to have a gorgeous 30 ’x70’ concrete, outdoor stage! We invite you to bring your best fire dancing performance art and strut your stuff for our live crowd and video cameras.

We’ll pay the cost and handle the logistics for fire and sound permits, space rental, press, marketing, fuel, spin out areas to give you an amazing opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd in a city that loves fire dancing. All this in exchange for your time on the stage! And if you’d like a record of your performance, we will be offering footage at the rate of $50 per 5 minutes of footage of your performance to use as you please. We will not be using the footage to make a DVD that we will sell, though we may put some clips on YouTube to inspire the world over with your fabulous performances!

Five workshop spaces and living areas inside the Vulcan will host our festivities. Free lodging (sorry, just couches) will be available Friday through Sunday for participants from outside the bay area. Additionally, hotels are available locally starting at about $45 a night.
Learn to spin poi the easy way: by understanding how poi works. This class is built around a series of simple exercises designed to teach you more than just tricks. By exploring how a few simple tricks relate to one another, an understanding of poi emerges that will make future learning easier.

Intermediate/Advanced Poi I - Noel Yee
Want to learn how do isolations and antispins? Know how to do them but not sure where to go next? This class will focus on practicing the basic isolations and antispins and then utilizing them to execute new and exciting techniques. These techniques include but are limited to: linear isolations, linear extensions, cat eyes and antispin triangles.

Beginning Poi – Jordan Campbell
This class will cover several of the fundamental types of motion used in poi spinning. After taking it you will have a deeper understanding of timing and direction as well as an arsenal of tricks that you can combine and modify to transform you from a novice spinner to a poi master.

Beginning Partner Poi - Silence and Ayala, of FLUX
An introductory level class covering technical moves and choreography in relation to poi duets. Technical emphasis will be on two-person interactive moves, rather than simultaneous moves. How to choreograph a routine from scratch will also be discussed. Bring a partner or find one in class.

Intermediate/Advanced Poi II - Ian Smith
This class will concentrate on the simpler things in poi: 2 beat weaves, stalls, pendulums, spinning in together time, same direction. You will learn that because of their simplicity they have the most variation possibilities and some of the variations can be quite difficult. We will also touch on the relationship between the poi and your body.

Staff

Beginning/Intermediate staff – Krissy Humphreys
Come learn staff fundamentals in this introductory class. We will cover beats, planes, basic passing and transfers while learning exciting moves including the fountain and chopper. No previous staff experience is required.

Intermediate/Advanced Staff Spinning– Ian Smith
In this class is designed to fill out technique: we will take a quick tour through different ways to pass the staff from hand to hand, work on some pendulums and non-linear planes and then learn technique that uses the body like learning to use your body as a lever to move the staff and how to use the momentum of the staff to initiate body movement.

Beginning Staff – Jordan Campbell
Explore various types of staff movement, develop technique to control the staff and learn to move your body in graceful unison with the staff. After this class you will be able to spin confidently in a variety of ways and will have a clear understanding of how a staff moves and how you must move with the staff.

Dance Dance Information - Katherine Tesch
A staff can make a great dance partner. Explore staff manipulation from a dance based perspective with an emphasis on integrating body and prop.

Beginning Contact Staff – Krissy Humphreys
An introduction to contact staff manipulation with an emphasis on further learning. This class will take you through the basics of wrapping, rolling and spiraling with a staff. Hand, elbow, shoulder and neck wraps; halos and backside spirals.

Adv Contact Staff - Advanced Explorations in Contact Staff – Noel Yee
Come learn the latest advances in contact staff! Take the contact staff technique you already know and apply them in resourceful new ways. This class will focus on the use of spirals, wraps and rolls to move the staff to the less explored parts of the body, even the legs.

Doubles Staffs

Beginning/Intermediate Double Staff - Krissy Humphreys
This class is designed for beginners and will cover basic double staff technique while introducing planes, beats, timing and direction. No previous double staff experience is required.

Intermediate/Advanced Double Staff - Greg Maldonado
Learn how to create a variety of patterns and effects with two staffs by combining many different types of motion into your tricks. Beginning with an understanding of how we can move one staff, we quickly progress to two staff exercises designed to open the doors to what is called "hybrid" technique.

Beginning Double Staves – Jordan Campbell
Learn double staff from the ground up in this class designed for the beginner. After a thorough examination of the myriad ways to manipulate a staff we begin combining techniques to seamlessly integrate a second staff.

Advanced Double Staff - Krissy Humphreys
Explore further into the world of double staff manipulation. This class will focus on isolations, anti-spins, hybrids, and how to add finger spinning into our flow. Previous double staff experience is required.

Hoop

Beginner Hoop – Khan Wong
This class introduces students to the fundamentals of hooping, from the first moves every hooper should learn to the principles of establishing a solid hoop practice. We'll start with the basics: hooping on the waist, walking and turning with the hoop and lifting the hoop off the body and getting it back on. From there, passes around the body, vertical hooping and basic hand-hooping technique will be introduced. The class will move on to shoulder hooping and duck-outs depending on participant ability and interest.

Hoop Technique & Flow – Khan Wong
The focus of this workshop is to expand each hooper's range of motion and control. As such, it will not teach moves (though some will be covered) but will instead cover theory and concepts of movement applied to hoop technique. Special attention will be given to hand and body rolling techniques, isolations, antispin applications and direction changes. Participants should be able to transition easily between at least three different moves (it doesn't matter which ones) to get the most out of the class.

Juggling

Beginning Juggling - Jordan Campbell or Bree Crabtree
In this class you will learn the 3 ball cascade – the fundamental building block of juggling patterns – as well as several variations. Everyone can learn how to juggle and the class will be taught in a very simple, sequential manner to ensure that you come out of the class having learned to juggle, guaranteed.

Beginning Contact Juggling - Noel Yee
The ball moves. The ball doesn't move. Come join us in this introductory class that will teach how you to move the ball through space gracefully and then keep it still in visually engaging ways. Close attention will be paid to beginning balancing, isolations and body rolls. No experience required.

Beginning Contact Juggling - Greg Maldonado
Learn how to use the fewest number of the simplest type of prop: one ball. Combining balancing, rolling and spinning to fluidly move a ball across your body, contact juggling will broaden your idea of what juggling can be while deepening your understanding of your relationship with objects.

“Other” Props

Rope Manipulation - Ian Smith
Rope Manipulation… what’s that supposed to mean? It’s everything can do with a jump rope other than jump over it! Poi experience is helpful in this class but not required.

Club Swinging - Poki
Break free from the chains that bind you!
Club swinging bridges the gap between poi and staff -- and will increase you skill in both! You will learn: basic club handling, common poi moves with clubs, odd poi moves with clubs, and some strange looking new club moves.
See you at spinagogue! ~Poki

Beginning Rope Dart – Sam Reese
Learn how to manipulate this most mysterious of props. Half dance half martial arts, rope dart combines beautiful motions with sudden eye catching surprises. Take the first step to mastering this ancient prop.

Beginning Whip Cracking - Mushashi or Elias
Learn to use the loudest, and the most dangerous prop of them all. Safety glasses are required, please try to bring your own, we will have a limited number to loan out. This workshop will teach you the basic cracks and the importance of finesse.

----
*Subject*: Town Hall Meeting: A Call to Arms for all Los Angeles Based Fire
Artists

*Where*: Smash Labs, 1714 Albion St, Los Angeles, CA 90031 323-227-6274

*When*: Doors open at 7pm Meeting begins at 8pm

*Who*: All members of the Los Angeles Based Fire Arts Community

*Why*: During recent interactions with Los Angeles County and State _Fire
Marshalls <http://www.film.ca.gov/LocationResources/FilmSafety.html>_we have
learned that they are in the process of designing a set of safety standards
and guidelines in an effort to standardize safety requirements within our
industry. These safety guidelines are to be implemented in the first
quarter of 2008.

We have the great fortune that our local county Fire Marshalls have
offered to allow us participate in the design of these standards.
Organizations such as the Safety Advisory for Fire and FX in Entertainment
(SAFFE)and members of the Pyrotechnics community have offered to provide
guidance or advice in the different methods of organizing ourselves and
interfacing with regulatory and enforcement entities such as the Fire
Department.

This *_Wednesday, December 12, 2007_* a Town Hall Meeting has been called to
inform the community and discuss the formation an organization comprised of
members representing the interests of the Los Angeles fire community.

******It is time for us all to come together, as a community - to openly
create our own guidelines that address issues, such as safety, performance
standards, etc. It is of the utmost importance that we collectively decide
this before it is decided for us*****

In Addition, there is a new e-mail discussion list for
fire artists and people who are interested in fire performance in the Los
Angeles area. This list can be joined by following this link:

http://www.curiousjosh.com/lafire

This list is an opportunity for us to stay in touch as a community, and
discuss a number of pressing issues that are affecting the Los Angeles fire
community such as the upcoming implementation of safety regulations,
standards, and restrictions governing our industry.

The LA Fire mailing list will be a great place to:
discuss issues affecting the fire community
share fire related tips and techniques
communicate about fire events in the LA area
and more

Please spread the word by continuing to forward this to fire performers who
are in Los Angeles, or who visit Los Angeles and perform with fire. If we
fail in this initiative then viewpoints such as "Poi is the most dangerous
tool in your arsenal" or the potential banning of poi spinning in the
direction of the audience may become a reality.

Troupes & Tool Manufacturers that have involvement in this initiative have
included: CuriousJosh, Fire Drums, Fire Groove, Los Angeles Fire Effects (LAFX),
Machina
Candeo, Mutaytor, Phoenix Projekt, Pyrophernalia / Om Fire, Sirena
Serpentina, Trick Concepts, & Volcano Flux.

Greetings. For those of you who are not on the Temple of Poi mailing list, I wanted you to know about this event. My friends are the founders of this company which has, over the past few years, grown into a beautiful and expansive company dedicated to helping people relate more authentically with each other. This event is a fundraiser to help support their new space.

While my performance will be cool (I go on at 11), it will be short and I actually recommend this party to you as an opportunity to deeply connect with beings looking for authentic relating.

Blessings...
...isa

Come celebrate & support the Unveiling of AuthenticWorld!

Saturday,1 Dec, 8PM - Dawn

This is our invitation to all of you, to come have an amazing evening full of dance, games & chill.

The occasion…?

As many of you know, in late '03 several coaches affiliated with Arete, The Men's Circle & The Community created a seminar company called AuthenticSF.
Our intention was explicitly to bridge the extraordinary intimacy and connection we have in our community into mainstream culture, making it accessible to people outside of our cozy li'l transformational bubble.
Our hunch was that anyone, even those never exposed to such intense self-exploration and vulnerability, would be just as blown away by this work as we've all been…
And we were right!
It's been a crazy ride - learning to speak openness in new languages, working through corporate environments, dating companies, extremely secular seduction communities…
Yet 4 years later we are expanding into AuthenticWorld, a company designed to establish centers around the world, all fiercely committed to fostering conscious and open-hearted community.
We hope you’ll come celebrate and support this important move into our new and more expansive seminar center, and we look forward to playing with you all!

Doors Open @ 8PM
(7if you’re lookin’ for some salsa lessons)
Be sure to arrive by 10PM for the Intentional Opening of the Evening!

In addition, we've got –
* A Killer DJ line-up (Dance & Chill) TBA
* Guest Performers
* A Variety of Snacks & Libations
* Intimacy Exercises throughout

**
Arrive @ 7PM for an hour of free salsa lessons with Michael (we'll have salsa peppered throughout the evening as well).
WHEN: 9:00-12:00AM, Monday November 26th 2nd and 4th Mondays (December Spin Jam will be Dec. 11th- Interested in Dec 24th Spin Jam?
WHO: Anyone who wants to play with flow toys! Or who enjoys watching people play with toys!
COST: 5-10$ Suggested donation. (This is a community event, and no one profits. We all pitch in to make sure that we make rent for the space.
No one turned away for lack of funds, ask how you can contribute in another way!)

Team Spin Jam has been hard at work with almost 40 emails flying about new venues, new ideas and new energy coming on to make the magic of our community fun time happen!

I bow gracefully before this community that brings me joy, again and again and again by simply coming together for no other reason than to be in flow. Thank you my inspirational friends who stepped up and contributed finances, energy, ideas and assistance!

What that means is that we have a new location, a new plan, and there will be more and more improvements as we get into the swing of things...so now is the BEST time to join us if you have been "meaning to"....

New Location: Our sweet and talented Ian found us a new space, here is all the info I currently have.

"Yo yo yo, So I found another space for Monday nights, City Dance
Studios at 32 Otis St. SF. There's a good parking lot around back at 10 Colton St. The space is 60'x40' sprung floor with sound system, it's larger than the dance area at Danzhaus (65'X30'), but doesn't have seating."

For a google map:
www.google.com/search

Ian will be sponsoring this night of Spin Jam, which means that he is financially on the hook for rent. Please come, shower this new space with great energy, and reward Ian for a job well done by having him leave with the rent paid!

I sadly will miss this inaugural Spin Jam in our new location. Please send me any feedback or thoughts of what we might need to make it great for next time!

Any DJ's in the house interested in playing on Dec. 11th. Contact me.

The Spirit of the Flow; The Flow of Spirit
[Free Evening Intro; RSVP Required]

Are there times when you experience being "in the flow" of things; when outcomes are achieved more easily, when you perform with excellence--and great ease? Sure there are--we have all experienced at least a glimmer.

And there are also times when the happening of your life seems bumpy and edgy--more challenging and more difficult. Or times when you simply are not at your best, but you aren't clear why...

What is it that makes the difference? What would it mean to you if you could model out the differences--and replicate the flow with consistency? What would it make possible if you could live daily in the spiritual practice of opening that within you which allows the flow to move through you?

•Learn to distinguish between states of flow and their opposite more rapidly
•Be exposed to techniques to model your own excellence
•Gain more choice in any context where you need to be at your best--improving performance and interpersonal results
•Reconsider the very nature of the "self" accessing greater choice and freedom

Join us in opening to flow.
November 13, 2007: 7:30 to 9:30 pm at Temple of Poi

I couldn't wait to get home and practice my poi with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration! It was so much less frustrating to think about flow energy instead of fight energy. I was able to brush off hitting myself in the face much easier. It was well worth the price of admission!" - S. Parkinson
Details: http://www.templeofpoi.com/events/expo07.php
Where: Union Square (Geary and Post)
When: April 29, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Cost: Free!!

Bring a chair and a blanket and join us April 29, 2007 at 7:50 pm for our
free fire dancing show in San Francisco's legendary Union Square (Geary and
Post) for the second annual Temple of Poi Fire Dancing Expo. In addition to
some amazing student performances, this show features world-renowned
performers from around the US as well as some of the best artists around the
Bay Area in a 2 hour show hosted by a Chicago based comedian.

The creation of this event – selected as one of Bay Area Dance week’s
Cornerstone events – is a tremendous leap in the efforts to legitimize fire
dancing as an art form by taking it out of parking lots and putting it on
landmark stages like Union Square. The Expo celebrates safe, legally
permitted, public fire dancing performance in honor of National Dance Week,
an annual 10-day week of free public dance events in the Bay Area designed
to showcase the dynamic diversity and critically acclaimed quality of Bay
Area dance.

Temple of Poi supports this vision by creating an unprecedented opportunity
to celebrate fire dancing at no cost to the artists or audience. This event
is a not for profit event created with the intention of:

- offering more performance opportunities for fire dancers
- giving novice artists who might otherwise not have an opportunity to
perform in a public setting an opportunity where they can invite friends and
family to see them express their art
- increased exposure to the flow fire art forms by creating a legally
permitted public event at a San Francisco landmark location
- raise the awareness of fire dancing as a prestigious dance form by holding
this event on the opening night of National Dance Week

Our Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening is the lovely and talented Miss
Tamale (http://misstamale.com) -- a former Temple of Poi student, fire
dancer and comedian who flew out from Chicago to help celebrate this event.

Be dazzled by expert professional and semi professional artists: Prism,
Solar Flare, LumenAscent, Order of the Phoenix, Flowtoys, Jamie/Vikki,
world-renowned professional performers ICoN, Banyan, Shredder and Temple of

The Shiva Vista Project is an art installation *by* fire performers *for* fire performers at night and for other individuals and groups during the day. Shiva Vista will create an atmosphere for fire performers, theatrics, sunrise yoga, circus entertainers, poetry, fashion shows, etc. to play, interact, and display their talent six feet above the playa for all to see their evolution, their transformation from one year to the next. When the Shiva Vista is not being used for scheduled performances, it will be available to anyone to use for meditation, shade, drumming, as well as spontaneous fire art and beyond.

History and inspiration...
Shiva is one of three aspects of the Hindu trinity representing divinity. Brahma is the first aspect, considered the creator, Vishnu the second aspect considered the preserver and Shiva, the destroyer. Shiva's function is to destroy all the worlds at the end of creation and dissolve them into nothingness, void, from which point Brahma again creates the world, completing the circle of life. Shiva is responsible for change, both in the form of death and destruction and in shedding old habits to start anew. Shiva's destruction is positive, that of nourishment and construction that builds and transforms life and energy for the welfare of the world and all that inhabit it. Shiva destroys to renew and regenerate. This is the destruction of an artist, a surgeon, a cook; evolution. Through destruction is facilitated the smooth transition of things and events from one stage to another.

The Shiva Vista project represents the theme at Burning Man this year and the continued evolution of Controlled Burn and the Fire Conclave Convergence Camp in the sense that this installation is intended to be built this year and used over the next couple of years, facilitating change, evolution, the shedding of old and creation of new, recycling and the circle of all life. Additions to the original structure are in the design process and will be added for Burning Man 2008, at which time it will be burned as it was designed to do, fulfilling the inevitable departure from existence into nothingness and oblivion!

You can also read a recent write-up in the Reno Gazette Journal, outlining the project and promoting our first fundraiser at
When
Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, 2007

Details
The following poi sessions will be taught by Isa "GlitterGirl" Isaacs, founder of Temple of Poi, the premier poi school in the world. There will be three teaching sessions and a special performance and celebration sharing opportunity as follows:

Saturday, March 3, 2007: Beginners:
Part I: 11:15 am - 1:00pm
Lunch: 1:00 - 2:15 pm
Part II: 2:15 - 4:00 pm
Break: 4:00 - 4:30 pm
Part III: 4:30 - 6:00 PM
Dinner/Break: 6:00 - 7:30 PM
Saturday, March 3, 2007: Performance and Celebration:
7:30 - 9:30 PM
Sunday, March 4, 2007: Intermediate/Advanced:
Part I: 11:30am - 1:00pm
Lunch: 1:00 - 2:15 pm
Part II: 2:15 - 3:45 pm
Sunday, March 4, 2007: Beginner Fire:
4:00 - 7:00 PM (with a short break)
Lessons for Beginning Poi artists

Our session will begin with a discussion of poi practices and mindset created for success. For beginning poi artists, we will focus on fundamental movement principles as well as ensuring the artist has the basic moves in all directions. Then we'll work on how to transition between same and split direction movements as well as flowing between moves.

The beginner session includes access to the Temple of Poi Computer Based Training Program. All Students must complete the computer based training prior to March 3. This will maximize the student investment. The opening of the training will be a review of everything covered in the computer based training program.

Upon registering for the course, students will be given access to the training as well as being shipped a set of practice poi included in the tuition.

Beginner Fire Lessons

This session will focus on fire safety and permitting information so students garner an understanding of what the risks and appropriate precautions are when handling fire. The session will then find students creating their fire poi custom sized to their ideal length.

Weather permitting, we will then proceed outside and spin fire. The training session will begin with everyone using duvetyn to extinguish a flaming tool. After each artist will participate by both acting as a safety for other artists as well as spinning fire for the group. We encourage students to read our fire safety information prior to arriving and we invite artists to bring guests who may want to learn fire safety procedures and witness their first fire spin as part of the workshop.

The tuition for this session includes all the materials necessary to make a set of fire poi as well as a piece of duvetyn, a fire retardant fabric used to extinguish fire.

Lessons for Intermediate and Advanced Poi artists

For intermediate and advanced Poi artists: Not only we will focus on honing skills (wall plane, multibeat, behind the back, polyrhythmic, split direction, etc.) we will work with combinations of moves and the flow between them. After all, what good does it do you to have a move that you can't string together with other moves? We will introduce some of our poi theory that explains how to understand more fully how to connect moves together and then we'll introduce some slick transitions (stalls, wraps, etc.) and some combos of moves you can use (and reuse like moves themselves) in your performances to add flair and fun to your poi play and performance time.

Intermediate students will also gain access to the Temple of Poi Computer Based Training Program. We anticipate this information is merely a review for intermediate students and will provide an understanding of our terminology rather than skill education. Upon registering for the course, students will be given access to the training included in the tuition.

Performance and Celebration

Saturday evening will find GlitterGirl performing for the students. All participants in any of the sessions as well as their guests are welcome to attend the celebration to share ideas, enjoy the performance and taken in the splendor of Shenandoah National Park. Intermediate and advanced students are welcome to create a performance for the group as well. Performances will be held indoor and, if weather permitting a fire performance will happen outdoor as well.

What to Bring

Please bring water, snacks and food as necessary, your poi, your flow journal, and your final tuition payment in cash. We will also have additional light poi available for purchase ($70) so bring cash for that as well.

Hey fiery folks,

Just wanted to invite you all to come down to Balmy Alley to spin this Sat. night for the Mission Arts Performance Project.

Superchill, super-informal. Just show up with your fuel and toys.

Part of the Mission Arts Performance Project (MAPP)
Balmy Alley on 24th between Harrison & Folsom
8:00 to 10:00 PMish

There's usually about 10-15 performance venues in a six block area of the Mission. There's everything from photography
installations to live bands to video documentaries to political art to fire performance.

Here's a little bit of information about the concept of M.A.P.P. If you need more info, visit, www.redpoppyarthouse.com.

So MAPP stands for Mission Artists and Performers Project.

The Mission Arts & Performance Project is a bi-monthly collaboration between visual artists, musicians, poets and performers. The MAPP puts art and performance on the street level by using alternative spaces such as private garages, basements, and studios. It's a block party of the arts for inspiring in ourselves, and others, the desire for a creative existence, an ever widening experience of life.

By transforming garages and backyards into mini-galleries MAPP shows how ordinary spaces can be made extra-ordinary to bring people together to share in a diverse experience of fine art and performance. The garages, as they are unpretentious and open to the street, pose the possibility of exposing the arts to a lot of folks who might not ever enter a gallery or theater. This process helps take the art from the margins of our communities to where it may come to be more widely see and understood as a vibrant and vital force necessary to the health of our society. It is our hope that local residents and others attending the MAPP will be inspired to seek expression of their own experiences and feelings through creative means and join in sharing what they have discovered in the MAPP events to come.

Spring 2007 Intermediate Moves & Beginning Group Performance Boot Camp is a 16 week intensive program for intermediate students and beginning performers focused on several areas of development.

The program meets 80 - 160 minutes per week with different areas of focus for each session.

Poilates sessions are focused on the meditative qualities of poi and generating movement from the core of ones body. Intermediate moves and drills classes are focused on augmenting ones skills technically with poi.

This will include the skills most relevant for each student at their current level of development as well as specific work on wall plane work. Performance sessions are focused on developing performance presence and character while choreography sessions are dedicated to creating and practicing the group performance piece for the Temple of Poi 2007 Fire Dancing Expo.

Assessment and individual study sessions, along with 2 half hour private sessions with GlitterGirl (to be scheduled on one of the tuesday evenings not scheduled for a late class) are designed to analyze individual needs of the students and work on the areas of development most relevant for that student.

Just wanted to invite you all to come down to Balmy Alley to spin this Sat. night for the Mission Arts Performance Project.
Superchill, super-informal. Just show up with your fuel and toys. Debut performance of Dreamtime Circus also. Deets below:

Part of the Mission Arts Performance Project (MAPP)
Balmy Alley on 24th between Harrison & Folsom

PERFORMANCE:
8:00 Freestyle Fire Dance & Acoustical Jam
(Fire dancers and musicians are welcome to
participate)

~ The debut performance of the Dreamtime Circus!

10:00 More Fire, Music, and Dancing!

This Saturday we will be down on Balmy Alley on 24th Street between Harrison and Folsom. There's usually
about 10-15 performance venues in a six block area of the Mission.

I'm new to tribe, and I need some help. I'm a student, looking to do a project of fire retardent clothing for fire artists. I've been spinning poi myself for a couple of years, but my feedback alone can't fuel this project. I need input from fire artists from all over! You can PM me to get my email address or check out my survey on SurveyMonkey.com. A few questions popped up about the survey itself. Performance and Recreational are grouped into activities due to the limit on questions allowed. And as for the severity of burns, mild burns refers to 1st degree, minor refers to 2nd degree and severe is 3rd degree. I realize I wasn't that clear, but it was my first survey ever. If anyone wants to be more involved in the design process, PM me and we'll go from there. Any feedback is welcomed!
Message
FireDrums IV
Thursday, September 28th - Sunday, October 1st, 2006

FireDrums is about bringing the global Fire Arts and Drumming Communities together to share knowledge and to propel these burgeoning Art Forms forward. The past 3 FireDrums were blessed with some of the most epic Fire and Drumming Jams of all time with participation from some of the world's most amazing Fire Dancers and Drummers. Truly inspirational!

FireDrums will always be open to everyone at any skill level even if you've never lit-up. Whether you're learning, teaching, sharing, inspiring, or being inspired, we welcome anyone interested in being part of the abundance of advancement that occurs when a convergence of this magnitude transpires. We look forward to revisiting old friendships and creating new ones with those who love the beat of the drums and the warmth and glow of the flame.

Everyone was a beginner at some point in their development and you can often learn just as much from teaching as you can from being taught. There will be organized and impromptu interactive workshops in the various disciplines of the Fire and Flow Arts and Drumming throughout the gathering.

LOCATION: We've secured the beautiful Cutters Scout Reservation exclusively for our next FireDrums gathering. Cutter Scout Reservation is a full-service camping facility located in the coastal mountains of California above Santa Cruz. This breath-taking 300 acre camp ground is located 25 miles from Santa Cruz and 67 miles from San Francisco. Cutter is about 2,200 feet in elevation and it's in some of the last old-growth redwoods on the West Coast. There is a full-size swimming pool, a small lake with canoes, hiking trails, bathrooms & showers with running water, bbq's, and so much more!

Things to bring: Your highest self, fire toys, drums, fuel, fire safety equipment, whatever you need to be happy in the woods, camping gear, tent, food, drinking water, friends & family, flashlight, sun screen, bathing suit, layers for varying temperatures, love & good vibes.

Things not to bring: alcohol, dogs, bad vibes.

As always, this is a LEAVE NO TRACE gathering!

Please car pool as there is very limited parking!

These 2 previous topics are VERY IMPORTANT POINTS!

This is a scout camp located within a beautiful national forest and it's our 1st gathering at this location. It's imperative that we show absolute respect for their beautiful land or we will not be invited back again. We have conveyed to Cutters how wonderful and respectful everyone has been at our past 3 gatherings and that FireDrums is not a rave or party scene.

Total capacity is strictly capped at 600 attendants by the Cutter Ranger!

Advanced Purchase Tickets: $40
*Only the 1st 450 pre-sold tickets are available at this price*
*The last 150 advanced tickets will be $50*

On-Sight (Gate) Tickets: $50
*Only available if FireDrums doesn't sell-out from Advanced Purchase Tickets*

To purchase tickets and for more info, please go to www.firedrums.org

Ticket price includes entrance to the gathering, use of all of the features listed above, up to 72 hours of camping, swimming, and lots of fun! By securing the reservation for our exclusive use, we can now put the funds received towards making this an even better experience for everyone at a lower individual cost than past FireDrums gatherings.
